Closing the Loop

Our curriculum is adjusted to reflect the change of the requirements of the local Biostatistical jobs. As a result of the written assessment, we have implemented further instruction of popular computer software in earlier courses and tried to encourage more real data examples be used across the curriculum. We have also tried to improve the MS exam questions to reflect these changes.  We have offered more computer intensive/programming courses in the summer for years and these courses are now ready to be offered in the regular quarters. These courses are great supplementary courses, and have steady and growing enrollments over years. Another focus of our curriculum is to train students’ communication skills, in writing and speaking. Biostatisticians need to understand the nature of the real-world problem, be able to translate this into statistical terms, solve the problem and communicate the results in a way that is understood by an audience with no statistical background. Students are supervised to do projects in the three core courses and thus they are well prepared and trained for their Biostatistical career.
