Is There Life After Class? Students Talking

Absolutely! "Fun? You've got to be kidding! This is the San Francisco Bay Area, we have it all: clubs, restaurants, museums, parks, natural resources, the ocean (30 minutes away), and skiing (three hours away)," said one CSUEB student. At California State University, East Bay, you can relax, enjoy a meal, and have fun as well as study. We offer an active campus social life, special events, performances, sports activities, clubs and student organizations. We're sure you'll find something to pique your interest, and make your college experience rewarding and enjoyable.

Athletics

Whether you're a serious athlete or just trying to stay in shape, want to learn a new sport or hone your skills, CSUEB has athletic activities you can enjoy. We sponsor 13 intercollegiate sports programs for dedicated athletes. If you don’t play, you can join the crowd and cheer for the Pioneer teams! For the just-for-fun athletes, we’ve got pick-up games all around campus or you can join one of Cal State East Bay's intramural sports teams. Visit the Intramural Sports Teams and Clubs Web page to find your sport.

Campus Activities

Our diverse student body brings a multicultural range of activities and events to the CSUEB campus. Make new friends at the Fall Al Fresco, the Lunar New Year Celebration, or the Great Chocolate Give Away. Definitely don't miss the week of Homecoming events. Check the Associated Students Web page and the University Calendar for events from kickboxing, to movie nights, to ice-skating in San Francisco.

Student music, theatre, dance, and art shows -- ongoing throughout the year -- range from the wacky to the classical. Lunchtime concerts by CSUEB music students and faculty are frequent in the Music and Business building. Or, you can stroll through an art exhibit in the Arts and Education building. Visit the Music Department Calendar and Theater and Dance Season Schedule for dates and times. Associated Students (ASI) sponsors many of the events on campus and campus events are listed on the University Calendar . The arts are also alive and well at our Concord Campus. Visit the Concord Campus events schedule to learn more about the Concert in the Hills series, Film Nights, and the free-admission 'Scholar' Lecture Series.

Clubs and Organizations

With more than 90 student organizations– from the Hayward Environmental Awareness Team (HEAT) to the Institute of Industrial Engineers to the Black Student Union - Cal State East Bay offers you a vibrant range of student activities. You can choose to join clubs, sororities or fraternities, student government or music, dance, and theater groups. You can work for the student newspaper or the radio and television stations. Can't find what you’ re looking for? Maybe you should ask the Student Life and Leadership staff to help you form a new student organization!

Student Housing

Living on campus is fun and convenient. The Pioneer Heights apartment complex offers attractive, Internet-wired, two-bedroom apartments. Each has a full kitchen, dining area, living room, bathroom, and storage area. Three new residence buildings, slated for occupancy starting in the fall of 2005, will double the current capacity at Pioneer Heights, giving more students the opportunity to live on campus.

Looking to live off-campus? We can help you with that, too. The Cal State East Bay Housing Office can help you find an apartment, house, room for rent, or a roommate.

University Union

Hungry? Looking for something to do? The University Union is the place to go on campus. Located in the central courtyard, just a short walk from most campus locations, the Union is a fun place to meet friends for lunch or coffee, take a yoga class, or play volleyball on the lawn. Plus you will find many choices for food including Chinese, Italian, Mexican and Indian cuisine. Visit the Agora outside the Union to listen to one of the many radio stations that frequent the campus, or be entertained with a performance by CSUEB students and clubs.
