Advising
You don't have to wait until you're admitted to learn more about college life and studies at Cal State East Bay. We provide
pre-admission advising to freshmen, transfer, and graduate
students. Call Enrollment Services at 510-885-2556 to schedule an appointment with an advisor. If you are a prospective graduate
student, contact Graduate Programs at 510-885-3286.
Orientation gives you an early
opportunity to meet with advisors who will assist you in planning your academic path to graduation. Orientation is highly recommended.
If you are undergraduate student who has not declared a major, visit the University
Advisement Center (UAC) to talk to an advisor. UAC will helps you set realistic educational goals and identify a study program
to achieve them. After you declare a major, you will receive academic advice from your major department.
Graduate students may obtain advice through the Graduate Coordinator in their department.

Career Services
Our Career Development Center provides career advising and job search
assistance for students who need to work while completing their studies. The Center hosts job fairs and recruitment events for hundreds of
employers throughout the year and provides workshops and seminars to prepare students for careers after graduation.
We also have a Cooperative Education
program which offers students the opportunity to earn degree credit while working in a paid or volunteer position related to their major or career goals. In the
past, these organizations have included IBM, Merrill Lynch, the American Red Cross, Sun Microsystems, Lawrence Livermore Labs, U.S. Geological Survey, the San
Francisco Opera, KQED-TV, and Bay Area Youth Centers.
Health, Safety & Well-being
Student Health Services (SHS) provides quality health services
– checkups to immunizations, physical therapy to optometry – right here on campus; the cost of the services is part of your university registration fees. Appointments
are free of charge, including counseling and psychological services. SHS also has low cost pharmacy services.
Our on-campus Early Childhood Education Center provides reasonably priced
childcare for infants, toddler, and pre-school children of students, staff, and faculty.
The University Police Department is committed to providing our university
community with a safe and secure environment where students, faculty and staff may live, work, and experience personal growth. In addition to providing
law enforcement, the Department provides a variety of public safety services, including safety escorts, vehicle lockouts, battery failure, and lost and found.
Library
The University Library provides our students the access to information in all of its forms -
print, electronic, audio or video - that is key to a quality education. Our extensive on-campus collection can be quickly and easily searched using the online
HAYSTAC system, which also permits our students to search the library collections of other colleges and universities, as well as public libraries.
To further support our students' research, the University Library subscribes to over 80 databases covering a wide range of disciplines. The Library has recently introduced Reference Chat, a new Web-based service that lets students ask questions and get answers, in real time, 24/7, from reference librarians.
Special Programs
Your success in college is our goal – whether you're a differently-abled student or a student who requires
additional academic preparation for college. The Student
Disability Resource Center provides a wide range of academic support for students with permanent or temporary disabilities. Upward
Bound and the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) provide tutoring, counseling, academic
advising, and other services to eligible high school students preparing for college. For example, the Summer Bridge Program helps newly-admitted
EOP freshmen strengthen their math and writing skills before they begin their studies at CSUEB in the fall. The EXCEL
program provides extensive support to eligible Cal State East Bay students to achieve their educational and personal goals.
Tutoring and Mentoring
Tutoring and mentoring provide students with the individual attention that can ensure academic success. Cal State East Bay offers these services to all students.
Tutoring in writing and learning skills is available on a drop-in basis or
by appointment for individual or group sessions at the Student
Center for Academic Achievement. The Mentoring
Program trains CSUH faculty and students to serve as mentors to students. The volunteer mentors provide student "mentees"
with guidance and advice to help them navigate today's increasingly complex educational and social environments.
