Tips on Navigating Cal State Apply

The new Cal State Apply is the only application system for applicants to any CSU campus: www.calstate.edu/apply. Below are some helpful tips and reminders to help facilitate the application process.

Freshman Applicants

Before you begin, have the following items and information on hand:

  • Unofficial high school transcripts: you’ll be asked to enter all the courses you’ve completed on your CSU application, those currently in progress, and all courses planned for spring 2018.
  • Be prepared to set aside 2 hours to complete the application process. You may want to complete the application in segments, just remember to go back and submit before the deadline.
  • Test scores (SAT, ACT, AP or IB) Report test results so far as well as any future test dates.
  • Your Social Security number, if you have one.
  • Your citizenship status.
  • A method of payment, you can pay the application fee by credit card. The fee waiver request is included in the online system as part of the application process. You will be notified at the time you apply online if you qualify for the fee waiver.
  • Your parents' citizenship status (if you are a dependent student).
  • Annual income: your parents' income if you are a dependent; your income if you are independent.
  • Two recommendations and your parents' employment background only if you’re applying to EOP. (Note: Applicants are encouraged to submit the EOP application at the same time as their application for admission. If an applicant wants to apply after the CSU application November 30th deadline, they can call Cal State Apply Support to apply by the deadline of January 15th. EOP recommendations are due January 31st.)
  • California statewide student ID (Optional); every K-12 student in a California public school is assigned an ID number. The number should be printed on your transcript.
