Cal State East Bay alumna, Minnie Murry (BS ’05, Psychology), recently attended Forever Pioneer Weekend and is the lucky winner of our $1,000 Southwest Vacation Giveaway.
I came to Forever Pioneer Weekend to reconnect with the school that I loved and spent many years of my life at while working and getting my degree in Industrial Psychology. The reunion event gave me the chance to meet fellow graduates and current staff, like a fellow alumnus who received a masters in art and went on to be an EOP advisor with the university. As an Equal Opportunity Program participant early in my time at Cal State, I valued the student support services I received and it was nice to hear about how the program is helping students today.
It was so fun to see and meet Golden Grads, celebrating their 50th anniversary since graduation! At one of the event sessions I attended, I learned about what the university and African American alumni are doing around diversity and leadership in our community. I enjoyed the conversation with peers about equity in education, how minorities are perceived in the workplace, and the opportunity to share my own thoughts and experiences in education.Minnie is an Instructional Specialist in Special Education for K-5 students in Fairfield. She says that her education at Cal State East Bay was a pivotal foundation for her careers in both management and now in teaching youth with special needs. Her goal is to continue teaching and is currently working on her graduate degree in Early Childhood Education.
