Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply and what are the requirements?
Because the One-Year Intensive MBA program can only accommodate 35 students each year, the application process is a bit different than other programs.  Although you are still required to submit a formal application to the University at www.csumentor.edu, you must FIRST complete a personal interview with the One-Year MBA program director(s).  Remember: personal interview BEFORE applying.  Applications submitted by students who have not completed a personal interview will not be reviewed.

To earn a personal interview, we ask that you complete our Pre-Admission form.  Your answers to this series of questions will help us determine your eligibility for the One-Year Intensive MBA program, and if you are eligible, we will work with you to book a personal interview.  Please note that pre-admission forms are not reviewed immediately.  Interviews for this program are typically conducted between December and May, and all pre-admission forms are reviewed around this time.

In addition to the personal interview, we require you to:

  • Submit an online application for CSU East Bay’s One-Year Intensive MBA program at www.csumentor.edu
  • Discuss the GMAT exam requirement with program director(s) during your interview
  • Send all original transcripts to the MBA Special Session department office
  • TOEFL/IELTS English Proficiency test is required for some international students (please visit CSUEB’s IELTS webpage to see if you are required to take the test)

When is the application deadline?
The application deadline every year is April 1st; the document deadline is April 15th.  However, because students are accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis, and only 35 students are admitted to the One-Year MBA each year, the program will be full before April.  It is important to follow the application steps early to ensure that seats are still available in the program.

When does the program start?
The One-Year MBA program begins only once each year in September (Fall Quarter).

What is the cost of tuition for the One-Year Intensive MBA?
Tuition is $29,800.
This is not subject to change during the course of the year.  This does not include textbook costs or application fees.

Are there any required prerequisite courses for students who did not earn their bachelors in business?
No.  The One-Year Intensive MBA is open to students with any bachelor’s degree.  We simply encourage a 3.0+ undergraduate GPA.

Can I transfer-in credits for courses I have taken in other programs or at other schools?
No.  In order to earn the MBA degree, members of the One-Year Intensive MBA program are required to complete and pass all courses offered in the MBA curriculum, regardless of past coursework.

What are the requirements for the GMAT waiver?
All applicants are required to complete a personal interview with the program director(s).  Applicants with 5+ years of working experience should discuss their eligibility for a GMAT waiver during their personal interview, where the applicant’s working resume and academic background are addressed.

What is the course schedule?
Courses are offerred on Fridays and Saturdays, from 9AM to 5PM.  All courses take place at the CSU “Oakland campus.”

Where are classes located?
Classes meet at the Oakland Professional Development and Conference Center, 1000 Broadway, Suite 109, in downtown Oakland, California.  This location is just one block away from the 12th Street BART station.  Classes are only held at this location; there are no classes offered online or at the CSU Hayward campus.

Why doesn’t the One-Year Intensive MBA meet at the Hayward campus?
The One-Year Intensive MBA program is offered at a different campus, with a different schedule, in order to accommodate for the completion of the program in four quarters, one year.  By providing one class each day and four classes each quarter, students are able to satisfy the requirements necessary to earn an MBA degree from California State University, East Bay in the set one-year time frame.

How long is the program and when will I graduate?
The program is four quarters, one year, and runs from Fall through Summer quarter the following year.  You will “officially” graduate in September.

What degree do I earn with completion of the One-Year Intensive program?
Students who complete all components of the One-Year Intensive program while maintaining an average GPA of 3.0+ will earn a Master’s degree in Business from California State University, East Bay’s AACSB accredited College of Business and Economics.  This is the same degree earned by students in the MBA with Options program at the Hayward campus, less the “Option.”

Is financial aid available?
Domestic students may be eligible for financial aid.  To determine your eligibility, please contact the Financial Aid office at finaid@csueastbay.edu.
