Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Please read the FAQs first before contacting us; it will answer most of your questions!

1. I logged into Blackboard and my class is not listed under my Enrolled Courses. Does this mean I am not enrolled?

No. This simply means that the course hasn’t been made available for access by your instructor. Check back again in a few hours.

2. How much time will I spend on coursework?

When we survey students about how many hours per week they spend working on their classes, there is a range from 10 to 15 hours per week (including readings, writing papers, participating in discussion threads).

3. What is expected of me as a student?

Students need to log in throughout the week -- early, to see what will happen that week and to begin initial discussions, mid-week to reply to earlier posts and help get a good discussion going, and late to make sure all discussions and assignments for the week are wrapped up. Once the class has been opened and you’ve logged in, you will find a syllabus and instructions on how to start working on the course. Make sure to read everything carefully since the instructor has clearly laid out the assignments for the class.

4. What is the Horizon email account? Why do I have to use it?

All emails from us will be sent to your Horizon email account. We will no longer use your personal email account to send information.

5. Will I have remote access to the CSUEB Library?

Yes. All students can Connect to the CSUEB Library from Off-Campus. You will be using your NetID and password to access the library’s database remotely.

6. I am still having problems logging in. Who do I contact?

You can contact the CSUEB Helpdesk Online. Please make sure to indicate that you are a student in the Online Teaching & Learning program. The HelpDesk can only help you with login problems (forgot your user name and/or password, have the correct ones but still can't log in, etc.)

7. I am not having a log-in problem but have some questions or other problems. Who do I contact?

Any other problems inside the course itself should be directed to your instructor, with a Carbon copy (CC) to Dr. Anne Guptill, Director of Online Teaching & Learning programs. The email must be sentusing your Horizon email account. They will try their best to get back to you within 24 hours (except for weekends & holidays).

8. I am a student with a disability and need special accommodations.

If you need special accommodations for a disability, please contact the Accessibility Services (AS) as early as possible (preferably before the class begins). If you have questions about how we accommodate students with disabilities in our online courses, please contact Dr. Anne Guptill, Director of Online Teaching & Learning programs.
