OPT Reporting Requirements

Post-Completion OPT Reporting Requirements (12 Months)

All students on OPT are required to report any changes within 10 days. You are required to report contact information changes and employer changes via your SEVP Portal. Failure to comply with any of the reporting requirements constitutes a violation of your legal F-1 status.

SEVP PORTAL- Self Reporting Tool

The SEVP Portal is a tool that F-1 students engaged in post-completion OPT and STEM OPT Extension can choose to use to report certain updates to SEVIS.

You will receive an email from SEVP to create a portal at the same time as your EAD authorization start date.

Required Reporting

What can I report via my SEVP Portal account while on Post Completion OPT?

You can update your residential information, your contact information and all required employer information. At this time, you cannot upload a copy of your offer letter or EAD card.

You are responsible for updating all changes within 10 days of the change. This includes when you leave an employer and start a new employer.

Once you update your employment information, we recommend you email CIE with your full name and SEVIS number requesting an I-20 for your records showing your employer information on page 2.

If you are unable to login to the Portal, please email cie@csueastbay.edu with the following to request a new email from SEVP:

  • Your full name
  • SEVIS number
  • You preferred email address
  • Picture of your EAD card.

What if I can't update my employer information since it has been more than 10 days and I get an error message to contact my DSO?

If you failed to report your employment information within 10 days, please update all employment information with today's date as the starting date. After the update has been submitted in your SEVP Portal, please email CIE (cie@csueastbay.edu) the following information to request CIE correct the start date:

  • Your full name
  • SEVIS number
  • Company Name
  • Correct start date

You are required to update your residential address in at least 3 places

  1. MyCSUEB- Log into your MyCSUEB to update your residential address with the university
  2. SEVP Portal- update your residential address in your SEVP Portal
  3. USCIS-  You will need to log into your USCIS online account and complete an address update each time you move while on OPT.
