Welcome Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Earth and Environmental Sciences Department (EES)! We are passionate about the environment with expertise in Geology, Hydrology, Biogeochemistry and Climate Change Science. Our faculty are all active in research outside of the classroom and are studying critical environmental issues including Hayward fault tectonics, sustainable groundwater management, coastal hydrology, greenhouse gas measurements, and nature-based climate solutions.

We truly are a family here in EES. You will find that our class sizes are small and you will get to interact with your professors and get to know the other students, making lifelong friendships along the way. In our department we emphasize hands-on learning with ample opportunity for field trips and outdoor experiences. Our majors often receive high paying jobs in the Bay Area job market. We encourage you to engage with the EES Club and reach out to your professors if you want field and research experiences outside of the classroom. If you have any questions about our majors or need career advising or help choosing classes please contact me! My email is: patty.oikawa@csueastbay.edu
