Services

These are just some of the services OFD provides to the CSU East Bay faculty community.

We offer workshops that provide overviews of dossier preparation for faculty who are submitting materials for retention, tenure, and promotion and for lecturers applying for range elevation. We also arrange informal hands-on dossier preparation sessions and individual consultations.

We maintain a collection of books, periodicals, reports, and other materials related to teaching and learning. Topics of interest include classroom assessment techniques, collaborative teaching strategies, how diversity enriches learning, mentoring, and connections between the classroom and our global community. Faculty may drop by the Office of Faculty Development to browse through these materials, check out materials for a week at a time, or simply have a cup of tea and some conversation.

The Office of Faculty Development offers a voluntary classroom observation process that emphasizes formative feedback and involves your students. The evaluation is confidential between the instructor and the Faculty Development observer, and thus the evidence collected belongs to the instructor. This is in contrast to a summative peer evaluation geared specifically to the RTP process. To discuss this process further and arrange for a consultation and observation, contact the Director of Faculty Development, Dr. Keri O'Neal, at keri.oneal@csueastbay.edu

The OFD offers individual, confidential consultation about classroom teaching, sabbatical applications, the retention, tenure, and promotion process, range elevation for lecturers, and post-tenure review. Pedagogical topics might include: revising syllabi, developing particular teaching strategies or assignments, discussing questions concerning student outcomes assessment, teaching and learning styles, and use of classroom technologies.

Consultations are available for issues such as:

  • Dossier Preparation
  • Classroom Issues
  • Pedagogy
  • Research Planning
  • Writing Coaching

This is not an inclusive list. Please email the Office of Faculty Development with any questions you may have or to request a consultation with the Director, Dr. Keri O'Neal, at keri.oneal@csueastbay.edu
