Beginning on October 1st, 2016, students and families need not wait until January to submit the FAFSA and apply for financial aid. The new October 1st FAFSA filing timeline is a permanent change, allowing current and prospective students to file the FAFSA early. This early filing opportunity means colleges, like East Bay, can make earlier financial aid award offers, and families will have financial aid eligibility information in their hands before they make critical college choice decisions.
Another FAFSA change, called PRIOR-PRIOR YEAR, allows students and parents to report income and tax information from an earlier tax year. For example, students filing the 2017-2018 FAFSA will report income and tax information from 2015, rather than 2016.
