Language
The goal of the language program is to prepare the students to understand, speak and write another language. It also acquaints students with different cultures, especially as reflected in their arts, customs and literatures. Faculty in Modern Languages and Literatures Department integrate in their teaching communication skills with cultural understanding. Also, communication in a foreign language enhances the ability to reason. The three discipline courses are: A sequence of three courses of a single foreign language either at the 1000 or 2000 levels. American Sign Language, Arabic, Filipino, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Mandarian Chinese, Portuguese, and Vietnamese. Credit-by-exam or self-paced will not be counted for GE credit. Fall - 1st course in the language sequence; Winter - 2nd course in the langauge sequence; Spring - 3rd course in the language sequence. If you have Advanced Placement (AP) credit for language, it will count as your Humanities general education requirements in your second year.
