Science, Technology & Society
Discover the relationship between science and technology and how they affect our daily lives and society. Explore how scientific and technological progress raises new moral and social questions and new challenges for humankind. The three discipline courses are: Science/Geology 1005- Technology and the Future - Survey of social development of key technologies that shape our society and future. Historical development of technology and emphasis on future developments and emerging technologies. Scientific, environmental, and policy issues. Cross-listed with GEOL 1005. Philosophy 1103 - Science, Ethics, and Technology - The ethical implications of various technologies, such as biotechnology, medical technologies, environmental technologies, informational technologies. Sociology 1001 - Introduction to Sociology of Science and Technology - Introductory analysis of the structure and functioning of human groups and interrelations between groups as affected by developments in science and technology. (Number change in Spring 2001 was formerly Sociology 1000-05) Science/Geology 1005 is offered in the Fall, Philosophy and Sociology are offered in Winter and Spring ( you must choose a different course each quarter.)
