What Do We Do?
Peer Mentors assume a multi-faceted role on campus. They collaborate with General Studies instructors to facilitate class discussions and assignments focused on the class curriculum. Students are encouraged to arrange one-on-one meetings with their peer mentor to discuss both personal achievement and struggles. Mentors are also available to provide assistance in the Peer Mentor Office to any student, who may or may not have a peer mentor in their GS section.
Additionally, Peer Mentors design and host campus events to unify the diverse student body, promote student involvement, and urge students to thrive intellectually. Past events have included the Freshmen Talent Show and group study sessions.
Mentors endeavor to not only ease the transition to college life, but also merge the enriching academic and social opportunities available to college freshmen. Thus, they have consistently reached out to the campus community to co-organize and promote campus events with Peer Mentor Club, ASI and Housing Services and have worked with the Orientation Team to welcome students to CSUEB.
