Determination of Eligibility
It is not necessary for students to apply for admission to
the Loaner Laptop Program. The first screening of eligibility
is done through the Financial Aid office and is based on the
following criteria:
- is an undergraduate financial aid student who is carrying
a minimum of 12 units
- the student has maxed out his or her traditional avenues
of financial aid
- the student has an expected family contribution of $0.00
After this criteria is met, the computer sorts out the information.
After early registration and again after late registration,
a program is run against the schedules of those students who
meet the above three criteria. The computer also determines
the number of MD1 and MD2 classes (Definition
of MD1 and MD2 classes) the student is taking. A list
is generated indicating how many students are taking 5 MD1
or MD2 classes, how many are taking 4 or more MD1 or MD2 classes
and how many are taking 3 or more MD1 or MD2 classes. Based
on the length of each list, it is determined how many MD1
or MD2 classes are necessary to be eligible for that particular
quarter. For both Fall 1997 and Winter 1998, eligibility was
set at 3 or more MD1 or MD2 classes.
Determination is made based on the fact that CSUH has 200
laptops in the program and that on an average, between 40%
and 45% of the students sent an eligibility letter will request
the use of the computer. For Fall Quarter, the letter sent
after early registration required 5 or more classes. The benchmark
was lowered for the second letter based on the number of students
who responded.
