Definitions of Terms

Academic Year - The academic year is comprised of the fall, winter, and spring quarters. It differs from the college year in that the college year starts with the summer quarter. 

Academic Year Annual Average - The average of the fall, winter, and spring quarters counts.

Annualized -Calculated as a sum across a four-term (fall, winter, spring and summer) calendar year, but divided evenly amongst the fall, winter and spring terms.

Class Level - The level of an undergraduate student as determined by the number of quarter student credit units accumulated as follows:

College Year - A 12-month period beginning with the summer quarter. The College Year 2003-2004 includes Summer 2003, Fall 2003, Winter 2004, and Spring 2004. 

College Year Annual Average - The sum of Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring Quarter counts divided by three (not by four)

Concord Campus - Refers to the campus in Concord only. (Does not include Hayward Hills campus)

CSU, East Bay - Refers to all campuses of California State University, East Bay. (Includes Concord and Hayward Hills Campuses)

Full-time Equivalent Students (FTES) - A measurement of undergraduate and graduate enrollment. This number is different than the number of students attending the university who are enrolled "full­time". For terms prior to Summer 2006, both graduate and undergraduate FTE were calculated by dividing total student credit hours by 15. For terms as of Summer 2006, graduate FTE is now calculated by dividing total student credit units by 12, while the undergraduate FTE calculation remains unchanged. 

Full-time Undergraduate Student - A student enrolled for 12.0 or more student credit units in a quarter.

Full-time Graduate Student - A student enrolled for 9.0 or more student credit units in a quarter.

Hayward Hills Campus  - Refers to campus location in the Hayward Hills only. (Does not include Concord Campus)

Part-time Undergraduate Student - A student enrolled for less than 12.0 student credit units in a quarter.

Part-time Graduate Student - A student enrolled for less than 9.0 student credit units in a quarter. 

Students (Headcount Enrollment) - The number of individuals enrolled for credit courses in a term. These counts are taken at the same time each term, as of the fifteenth day of instruction. 

Student Credit Units (SCU) - The number of units for which a student is enrolled in a term. 

Undergraduate Student - A student who does not hold an acceptable baccalaureate degree from a college or university.
