Firewall Configuration Request

The campus maintains a number of network firewall devices to protect the campus from both internal and external electronic threats. In certain circumstances, an application or host may need to be granted exceptions in order to function. These exceptions are categorized as standard and non-standard.
Standard exceptions are either standard due to common industry use (such as HTTP for web services) or common due to wide use within our organization.
Non-standard exceptions are classified as such due to either use of an uncommon exception type (such as an exception for a specialized building controller), or non-standard use or application of an otherwise standard exception (such as utilizing HTTP services on an alternate port number).

Activate Wired Network Jack
Activate or Enable an existing Network Access Point.
A Network Access Point (NAP) is a receptacle within an office that is used to connect a computer to the campus network. There may be cases in which an office has a NAP, but the NAP is not active -- when you connect a cable from the computer to the NAP, the computer does not receive any signals from the campus network and the lights on the network interface card in the computer do not flash. This occurs when the NAP is not connected to a port in the network wiring closet or the port in the wiring closet to which the NAP is connected is not active.
ITS will examine the NAP and the connections in the network wiring closet and will activate the network connection to the computer.
Static IP Address
Assign an Internet Protocol (IP) address to a network device.
IP addresses are unique identification numbers that are assigned to computers, printers and another devices that are connected to the campus network. The IP address is used to enable the devices to send signals to and receive signals from other computers that are also connected to the network and the Internet. Normally, an IP address is automatically assigned to a device on a temporary basis, and the IP address for the device changes periodically. However, there are situations in which a device needs to always have the same IP address. (Examples are servers, networked printers and computers that host dedicated applications.) For these situations, ITS can assign an IP address to the device so that the IP address of the device does not change.
In order to assign an IP address to a device, ITS needs the following information.
- Type of device (e.g., computer or printer)
- Use of the device (e.g., server or networked printer)
- Host name or network name of the device
- Ethernet address of the device
- Location of the device (i.e., building and room number)
