ITS Code of Ethics
I will strive to know myself and be honest about my capabilities.
- I will strive for excellence in my profession at Cal State East Bay by maintaining and enhancing my knowledge and skills. I acknowledge that there are many free resources available online, vendor sponsored seminars, Educause resources, and affordable books to help me stay current in my profession – limited access to training funds is not an excuse for failing to stay current.
- I will strive to routinely demonstrate my skills and capabilities within the context of my assigned responsibilities and tasks – including my project team membership skills, as well as my leadership, training, communication, coordination, and collaboration skills.
- I will seek assistance and guidance when faced with a task beyond my abilities, training, or experience. When my assistance is called upon, I will respond willingly to share my knowledge and experience with others.
- I will strive to be a trustworthy and reliable member of Cal State East Bay’s team of professional staff.
I will conduct my work in a manner that assures the ITS division is considered one of integrity and professionalism.
- I will not injure others, their property, reputation, or employment by false or malicious action. I will respect the integrity and privacy of others and will not abuse my access to information. I will not advance personal interests at the expense of faculty, staff, students, colleagues, supported units, or the University, and I will reject bribery in all its forms.
- I respect intellectual property and licensing agreements, and I will be careful to give credit for other's work.
- I value operational excellence; I value highly responsive, helpful and supportive relationships; and I value open-minded, receptive collaboration – the key ingredients for building trust and creating multiple “win” scenarios for the administrative divisions, colleges, faculty, staff, students, and colleagues at Cal State East Bay.
- I will be honest and realistic in stating claims or estimates, and I will distinguish between advocacy for specific products or solutions and un-biased analysis. I will not present opinion as fact.
- I will adhere to and promote university procedures and industry best practices for responsible design, testing, documentation, and implementation of assigned tasks, projects, and services.
- I will report promptly all threats, vulnerabilities, and risks that might result in damage to university assets, information, or services.
I respect the rights of others.
- I treasure and will defend equality, justice and respect for others.
- I will not participate in any form of discrimination, whether due to race, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender/sexual identity or expression, marital status, creed, religion, age, disability, size, veteran's status, or political ideology.
Most importantly, I will measure my successes by the successes I help others achieve.
