The Department of Music requires all prospective undergraduate and graduate music majors interested in studying performance to complete an audition on their major instrument/voice. Auditions will be scheduled after students complete the Cal State East Bay Music Department Application Form.
Students for whom distance is prohibitive may send a high quality recording of their audition performance via a link to online digital files (e.g. YouTube, Dropbox, Soundcloud) to email@example.com. All audition materials must be received by April 13, 2018, and auditions completed by January 27 will be considered for a scholarship.
All auditions shall be approximately ten minutes long. All performance applicants must perform two selections, one that demonstrates technical facility and one that is more lyrical in character. The performance should demonstrate accurate rhythms, pitch control, and interpretive awareness.
Voice students auditioning for undergraduate study should prepare two memorized selections to be performed with piano, one of which must be in a language other than English. Art songs, arias, folk songs and musical theatre selections are preferred. An accompanist will be provided. Popular, gospel, and selections sung with a recorded track are not acceptable.
