The Ethnic Studies Department of California State University, East Bay is accepting registrations from 15 persons for a low-cost multicultural summer teaching institute aimed at East Bay urban teachers.

Thanks to supplementary funding from an alumnus, the accelerated study in multicultural education is priced at $160 for four teacher education graduate course units, instead of $660. The course will be presented from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday, July 13-24. on the university's Hayward Campus, 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd. The course also offers 10 hours of instruction online.

The seminar is to provide East Bay urban teachers with requisite pedagogical and research skills to incorporate more materials on American racial and ethnic groups into their classrooms.

The sessions are being organized and facilitated by Barbara Paige, professor and chair of Ethnic Studies, with participation by most of the department's faculty. The 10 hours online will be devoted to assignments and discussions that establish a foundation for continuing and collaborative dialogues between seminar participants and the Ethnic Studies faculty.
