A digest of top, need-to-know dates, deadlines and events for faculty, staff and students, "This Month at CSUEB" is a regular feature of The View e-News. Read on for updates and previews of what’s happening at Cal State East Bay in the coming month:

• Celebrate Homecoming 2011: The Red and Black Attack on the Hayward campus through Feb. 6. Events include the East Bay Idol Competition, Pioneer Pride Fashion Show and 10 athletics events, including the Battle of the Bay against San Francisco State on Feb. 5. • Warm up for the Homecoming games from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at an ASI and Alumni Pre-Game Tailgate party in Lot A on the Hayward campus. Students and alumni will enjoy free music, food, a bounce house, face painting and contests.

• Pay tribute to faculty authors and artists from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Feb. 9 in the Biella Room of the University Library on the Hayward campus. More than 50 faculty members who wrote books, articles and musical compositions, produced art work or directed theatrical productions from September 2008 to September 2010 will receive recognition at a ceremony attended by President Mo Qayoumi and Provost James Houpis. The event also will feature readings by two authors and excerpts from a stage play.

• Students, improve your leadership skills at a free Feb. 9 workshop. The Winter Quarter Leadership Institute, presented by Student Life and Leadership Programs, begins at 6 p.m. in the University Union, room 102, on the Hayward Campus.

• Volunteer as a CSUEB greeter at area churches Feb. 20 for Super Sunday VI, part of the CSU’s Outreach Initiative to Underrepresented Communities. Additional events are scheduled Feb. 13 and 27. Sign up and view participating churches online.

• The Theatre and Dance Department's "Xtigone," a new adaptation of the Greek tragedy "Antigone," has been selected for the Regional Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. You have one more chance to see the show at 8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 12, in the University Theatre. Make reservations online or call (510) 885-3118.

• Fete newly tenured and emeriti faculty members and those who have achieved 25 years of teaching service at the 2011 Faculty Honors Convocation, scheduled from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 24 in the New University Union on the Hayward campus.

• Student Health and Counseling Services has introduced weekly Al-Anon meetings for students, faculty and staff members from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesdays in the old University Union, room 307A, on the Hayward campus. Al-Anon Meetings are anonymous and offer group support for people affected by someone else’s drinking.

• In recognition of long-standing service, the university will hold a Feb. 25 event, Celebrating 30 Years of Higher Education in Contra Costa County, at the Concord Hilton. A ceremony conferring an honorary doctorate on Contra Costa County businessman and philanthropist Sil Garaventa will also be featured.

• Music composed by CSUEB alumnus composer and lecturer Nick Vasallo will be performed by the CSUEB Symphony Orchestra, Wesley J. Broadnax, conductor, at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 24 in MB 1055. Admission is free with CSUEB ID.

• A two-part Women's RAD (Rape Aggression Defense) class will be offered from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26 and March 2; participants must be able to attend both sessions. • Spaces are available at the Early Childhood Education Center (E.C.E.C.), which provides quality early childhood programs and services for infant, toddlers and preschool children on the Hayward campus. A partnership between Associated Students Inc. and Child Family Community Services Inc., the center is open 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays and serves the university community and members of the public.
