A digest of top, need-to-know dates, deadlines and events for faculty, staff and students, "This Month at CSUEB" is a regular feature of The View e-News. Read on for updates and previews of what’s happening at Cal State East Bay in the coming month:

• The CalPERS Open Enrollment period will run through Nov. 4. Modifications made during Open Enrollment will go into effect Jan. 1, 2012.  During Open Enrollment, employees may make changes in benefit plans including health, dental, Dependent Care Reimbursement Account (HCRA) and FlexCash plan.  Employees are also qualified to enroll in MetLaw, the CSU group legal plan.

• Donate food to the CSUEB Upward Bound Program’s Annual Food Drive through Nov.15 and help the program reach its goal to raise 1,000 pounds of food. All nonperishable foods are accepted. Barrels to collect food for the Alameda County Community Food Bank will be located in ST 80 and can be accessed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

• Support the Theatre and Dance Department on Nov. 11, 12, 18 through 20 by attending “The Laramie Project,” a docu-dramatization of reactions to the 1998 murder of University of Wyoming homosexual student Mathew Shepard in Laramie, Wyo. Reserve tickets online or call (510) 885-3118.

• Observe the solar system through a telescope on Nov. 5 at CSUEB as a part of the Bay Area wide star gazing party. Associate Professor Gary Weston will lead two brief observing sessions separated by an indoor lecture. The event will kick off with a picnic at 4 p.m. on the east lawn of the Science Buildings and conclude with star gazing from 6 to 8 p.m. For more information, contact Gary Weston:, (510) 885-3448.

• Pencil in the Music Department’s Jazz Fall Concert with the East Bay Jazz Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 29 in the University Theatre.  Admission is $7 general, $5 for seniors and students and free to those with a CSUEB ID.  For details, visit the Music Department online.

• Enjoy an array of art free of charge at the 50th Annual Faculty and Staff Exhibition through Nov. 23 in the University Art Gallery, on the first floor of the Art and Education Building on the Hayward campus. View the exhibition from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays, and Saturdays; and from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursdays.

• The University will mark the 50th anniversary of credentialing with a Dec. 12 celebration welcoming credential candidates, alumni, the interim president, district partners and members of the community. Festivities are scheduled from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the New University Union multipurpose rooms A and B.
