Two members of the Cal State East Bay women's volleyball team -- junior Veronica Sanchez and senior Suzy Ni Xu -- received exciting news for Thanksgiving, as the California Collegiate Athletic Association named them to the 2013 all-conference second team. They were recognized by the CCAA's 12 head coaches.

For Xu, it's her second consecutive appearance on the all-star squad. In 2012, she was voted Newcomer of the Year as a junior.

Xu, from Da Lian Liao, China, was CSUEB's leading scorer for the second straight year, contributing 2.67 kills per set, a .240 hitting percentage from the right side, and 344 total points. She reached double-digit kills in 16 matches. Xu finished with 639 kills for her Pioneer career, which ranks 10th in school history.

After just two seasons as the team's starting libero, Sanchez already ranks third in CSUEB history with 1,080 career digs. She earned her first All-CCAA nod this season after racking up 577 digs for the Pioneers.

Sanchez, a native of Selah, Wash., led the CCAA and ranked in the nation's top 30 with 5.43 digs per set. Sanchez also averaged 0.32 service aces, which was seventh-best on the conference. The best news of all, perhaps, is that the Pioneers will have another year with her anchoring the back line defense.
