Lorenz Ortiz' "Downtown Oakland" will be shown at De Young exhibition Friday.
Three art students, Lorenz Ortiz, a junior with a graphic design option; Melanie Sharr, a senior in the traditional art, BFA program; and Philip Long, a senior with a studio option, will have artwork in the De Young College Outreach Program 2010 Spring Satellite Event with 111 Minna Gallery from 5:30-9 p.m. April 30 at 111 Minna St, San Francisco.
Ortiz’s digital photography is entitled, “Downtown Oakland,” Sharr’s oil on canvas is, “Natoma Street Night," and Long’s is, “Honoring Four Oakland Heroes,” a large-scale leather mosaic memorial to the four police officers who died March 21, 2009.
The pieces were selected from Bay Area universities, colleges and community-based art centers to bring awareness to the rich and thriving Bay Area Americana art and culture, which distinguishes us from other parts of the Americas.
The event includes Americana dance tunes from past to present spun by DJ Lamont and DJ Felix. Visitors are encouraged to dress in chic or funky Americana style.
