In a recent letter to The New Yorker, Dee E. Andrews, professor of history and a specialist in the Founding Era, commented on the importance of history for grappling with Americans' current political divide.  “I was prompted to write the letter regarding “The Deflationist” article because it suggested, passingly but significantly, that the study of history isn't relevant to contemporary policy issues,” said Andrews.

Read Larissa MacFarquhar’s profile of Nobel Prize winner and Princeton economist Paul Krugman, “The Deflationist.” Then, read Andrews’ letter in response to the article.
