Congratulations to Justin Melville, a senior in the English/Education “blended” program with a creative writing option, who is this year’s winner of the Virginia Ireys English Teacher Scholarship.

Justin is a life-long resident of San Leandro and attended Chabot College before coming to CSUEB in fall 2008.

This annual award of $1,000 is funded by an endowment from Virginia Ireys Anderson, Ph.D., who did her M.A. in English at CSUEB, went on to earn a Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley, and taught for several years as a lecturer in the Cal State East Bay English Department – all after a long career as a high-school English teacher!

The selection committee consisted of English professors Jacqueline Doyle, Dennis Chester, and Margaret Tomlinson-Rustick.
