Cal State East Bay, along with PG&E representatives, broke ground on the University’s fuel cell project. CSUEB will soon become one of the first colleges in Northern California to host a fuel cell which will provide a clean, quiet and reliable independent power source.

The electricity generated by the fuel cell will be added to the state's electric grid and used to power businesses and homes.  “The fuel cell project is a win-win situation…,” said Jim Zavagno, CSUEB director of planning, design and construction. He expects the hot water generated by the cell to save the campus about $155,000 annually.

In his article “Cal State East Bay to host new power source,” Chris Metinko, Oakland Tribune, reported, “PG&E is footing the bill for the $7 million project, which is expected to be online in April.”  Read article.
