The Model United Nations Club at Cal State East Bay is demonstrating its mission, "...working together for peace and development while caring about others." Student members with the collaboration of international students and professors set up a donation table outside of the University Union during the week of April 4 and collected nearly $600 in just the first few days for earthquake and tsunami relief in Japan.

The club will continue their goodwill activities by sponsoring a fundraiser on April 12. The event will feature a speaker from the Japanese Culture and Community Center of Northern California along with a martial arts exhibition, raffle and an origami workshop.

"We are hoping to raise awareness of the damage that the tsunami and earthquakes have caused in Northern Japan and show how our contributions have a positive impact for this cause,"said Andrew Vargas, a CSUEB senior majoring in political science and Model UN Club president. He noted that 100% of donations and proceeds will benefit relief efforts.

The event will take place at the University Union in room 307 on Tuesday, April 12 at 6pm. Contact Andrew Vargas for more information at andrewvargas77@gmail.com.
