The Friends of the Arts, supporting the Cal State East Bay departments of art, English, music, and theatre and dance, has awarded a total of $2,000 to five students.

Ken Wilcox, a senior studying music; Chalia Ayers-LaTour, a senior in theatre and dance; and Maria Fulmer, a senior in art, each received $500 awards.

The English award was divided between Spenser Babyak, a sophomore, and Robert Palmer, a senior, both of whom are majoring in creative writing.

The FOA has named Myoung-ja Kwon its president for the 2011-12 academic year, replacing Linda Charles, who held the position for two years. Kwon retired in 2009 after directing the CSUEB Library for nine years.
