Neighbors Invited to Master Plan Forum Dec. 9

Development of the university recreation and wellness center is an element of the master plan.

Residents of the neighborhood surrounding Cal State East Bay's Hayward campus are invited to an open forum Tuesday, Dec. 9 to review and discuss the Hayward Campus Master Plan and the draft environmental impact report related to that document.

The forum will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in the New University Union on the campus located at 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd. Parking will be provided by the university in Lot B, on the west side of campus, across the street from the New University Union.

The master plan and draft EIR were developed by a committee representing students, employees, and representatives of the city and the Hayward community. The master plan is expected to go before the California State University Board of Trustees in early 2009.

The Hayward Campus Master Plan Steering Committee addressed such long-range planning issues as land use, student and employee housing, traffic, parking, student services, and sustainable development. The committee received input at forums held for students, staff and faculty on March 11 and 12 and Nov. 18. Meetings for the university's neighbors were held May 6 and Sept. 18

Upcoming presentations are scheduled for the Hayward City Council and the board of directors of the Hayward Chamber of Commerce. A presentation to the executive board of Associated Students Inc. of Cal State East Bay led to endorsement of the master plan by the full student government board at its meeting Nov. 26.

"The master plan and draft EIR will guide us as we look at the future development of the Hayward campus," said Linda Dalton, vice president for planning and enrollment development.

The master plan committee was assisted by consultants from the BMS Design Group of San Francisco and Jim Zavagno, university planner in the Office of Facilities Management and Planning.

Members of the committee are Carl Bellone, associate vice president for Academic Programs and Academic Studies; Shawn Bibb, vice president for Administration and Finance/CFO; David Cain, associate vice president in the Office of Facilities Management and Planning; Kevin Callahan, professor, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science; Jay Colombatto, executive director of University Communications; Cathleen Coulman, director of Student Health Services; Susan Daluddung, former director of the Office of Community and Economic Development, City of Hayward; Linda Dalton, vice president for Planning and Enrollment Management; Ola Dokun, 2007-08 former president of Associated Students, Inc.; Stan Hebert, associate vice president, Division of Student Affairs; Dave Larson, chair/professor, Department of Geography and Environmental Studies; Michael Mahoney, CEO of St. Rose Hospital; Udeepto Maheshwari, president of Associated Students, Inc.; and David Rizk, director of development services, City of Hayward.
