CSUEB’s Chemical Dependency Studies Program prepares participants for in-demand jobs

The need for trained substance abuse and behavioral counselors has increased in recent years, and Cal State East Bay’s Chemical Dependency Studies Certificate Program prepares participants for careers in this fast-growing field. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the employment of Substance Abuse and Behavioral Disorder Counselors is projected to grow 31 percent by 2022 — nearly three times the average growth rate (11 percent) for all other occupations.

In addition to the expansion, the original structure is being renovated to create an overall cohesive and modern feel between the old and new spaces. The Oakland Center will be closed and under construction for the remainder of summer and is set to reopen in fall 2015.

The event, honoring former ALP students who have matriculated into the university and will graduate from CSUEB in the 2014-15 academic year, celebrated 146 former ALP students — 120 with bachelor’s degrees and 26 with master’s degrees.

Blind CSUEB Student Pursues Passion for Opera Through International Exchange Program

Cal State East Bay student Brandon Keith Biggs, blind from birth, is getting to do exactly that.
