Meet Your Welcome Center Staff!
We look forward to greeting you and showing you everything Cal State East Bay has to offer.
As the Welcome Center Program Development Specialist, I want to welcome you to Cal State East Bay! I received my undergraduate degree at CSU Monterey Bay in Human Communication with a concentration in Journalism and Media Studies. Then I went to San Jose State University for a Masters in Education Counseling. And I am currently a doctoral student at San Francisco State University's Ed.D. Program in Educational Leadership. I am a proud product of the CSU in both my personal and professional life.
I love Cal State East Bay for its people! A typical student here often has to balance school, work, and many other demands of life. I respect the fight and the resilience our students have in order to make their dreams a reality. And I appreciate the determination of our faculty and staff to support these students in reaching their full potential. I also love the diversity; I was once moderating a student panel where a CSUEB student encouraged prospective students to apply by saying, “Come to a university where your culture is celebrated and not just tolerated.” Cal State East Bay truly is a wonderful place where ALL students have an opportunity to thrive. One of my favorite places on campus is the Pioneer Stadium; it has a beautiful view of campus and an outdoor track with plenty of stairs for a great workout. My favorite quote is “Love who you are right now.” And if I were cool enough to have an iPod, my most played song would be “Let’s get loud,” by Jennifer Lopez.
Hello, I am excited to be your Welcome Center Office Manager! I earned two Bachelor's of Science degrees from Humboldt State University in Zoology and Marine biology. My background is working with the public in an animal-based environment. I found that what I enjoyed most about my experience was the educational aspect and working with people so the transition to being a part of the Welcome Center team was a natural extension of that.
What I love about Cal State East Bay is the diversity, the views, and atmosphere. CSUEB is a beautiful campus where you immediately feel at home. Since it's a medium-sized university, you get the family-vibe without losing access to a myriad of programs and clubs. The SF Bay Area location is perfect for exploring the city, the woods, the ocean, or any places in between. Cal State East Bay represents the best the Bay Area has to offer! My favorite place on campus is the Starbucks in the Library, because of the coffee and books! My most played song is “California Love,” by 2Pac. My favorite quote du jour is "I never look back Darling; it distracts from the now!" from Edna Mode of "The Incredibles" because your tomorrow is what you make it, not what makes you. I hope you'll start your tomorrow with us at Cal State East Bay. See you on campus!
Meet Your Tour Guides!
Aloha ka kou! I am a freshmen from Maui, Hawaii. I am a Pre-Nursing major because my lifelong dream is to impact someone's life in a positive way, and I feel it would make me happy to help people on a daily basis. The transition from Maui to the Bay Area was huge, however I have yet to get homesick. All the people I have met at East Bay are so friendly and welcoming it made me feel like I found my own "Ohana" here. I chose East Bay for the diversity and the location is the heart of the Bay! My favorite quote that I live by is "Believing you will do well is half the battle" which is from my favorite show of all time, One Tree Hill. My favorite song is "Try" by Colbie Caillat because you do not have to try so hard, just be yourself.
I am a freshman who graduated high school at Baldwin High in Maui, Hawaii. As a pre-Business major with an option in Public Relations, I chose this major because I feel Business is a broad major that will allow me to experience many different opportunities. At first it was difficult for me to adjust to college life because I was very homesick. But after classes started, I was able to really enjoy the college experience. The Business program is one of the best out of all the CSUs. Business was really the reason I came to The Bay. My favorite quote is, “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.” by John Lennon. The song I play the most is "Always and Forever" by The Green, because it reminds me of home.
I’m a freshman here at Cal State East Bay studying for my major in Psychology. I chose Psychology as my major because I’m a people person who enjoys helping and working with others. My transition to college has been positive due to my support system here on campus, the Education Opportunity Program (EOP) and my Peer Mentors. The “IT” factor that made me choose Cal State East Bay was its diversity and welcoming atmosphere. When I stepped on campus, I felt at home. In addition to that was the spectacular view of the whole bay. My favorite quote is "My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style." Maya Angelou. The most played song on my playlist is Alicia Keys ft. Kendrick Lamar “It’s on again.”
I am currently a Junior at East Bay, majoring in Biology. With this major I hope to become a pediatrician. I love working with children and with people. What helped my smooth transition into college is the EOP program. This program helped me pick my classes and pushed me to better myself, while giving me the support I needed to do so. I chose to attend Cal State East Bay because of the breathtaking view and also the opportunity that a degree from East Bay offers. My favorite quote is "Believe you can and you're halfway there" by Theodore Roosevelt. My most played song on my iPod is “The Way” by Ariana Grande.
I am currently a sophomore at Cal State East Bay; my major is Business. I decided to pursue Business because I want to get into a marketing and advertising career. Transitioning to college was difficult at first but once I settled in, it’s been great. The reason why I chose CSUEB was because I love the diversity on campus and my twin sister plays soccer so I had to support her. My ultimate favorite quote is “Life goes on,” those three words are always a constant reminder I tell myself when I am going through a hard time because it’s not the end of the world and to always keep going and look forward. The most played song on my iPod is probably “Shake it Off” by Taylor Swift, no matter what I am doing that song will always put a smile on my face and get me up to dance.
I am a sophomore here at Cal State East Bay and my major is Business. I am looking forward to opening my own art business designing shoes. My transition into college was a little bit difficult for me. I missed my family and the food from home, because I am several hours away, but the "college experience" was definitely worth the adjustment to come here. The reason why I chose Cal State East Bay was because I was recruited to play for the women’s award-winning soccer team. I received a partial scholarship, which helped seal the deal for me. The most played song in my iPod is "Latch" by Disclosure. I look forward to being a tour guide and showing students and their families around campus; I think you will love it!
I'm from the island Kaua'i, Hawai'i, and a Political Science major with the hopes of attending law school back in Hawai'i when I'm done here at East Bay. My transition to college was different from most, coming from a tiny island where everyone knows everyone to a place like CSUEB was startling at first. But now I have made great friends and love it here. I choose CSUEB because it is affordable and close to my ohana in Berkeley. My favorite quote is, "I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, 'If this isn't nice, I don't know what is.'" - Kurt Vonnegut.
The most played song on my iPod is "Love and Happiness" by the great soul singer, the Reverend Al Green.
I am a senior and my major is Graphic Design with minors in American Sign Language and Biology. I chose Graphic Design because it has always been a dream to work for Pixar or Disney. My transition to college was smooth and enjoyable. The courses here at CSUEB were challenging yet fun. Having resources on campus such as SCAA and tutors made it possible to succeed in any course. I chose Cal State East Bay because of the student environment on campus; everyone was so friendly when I toured the school my senior year in high school.
My favorite quote is, "All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them." - Walt Disney. My most played song on my iPod is "Wadsyaname" by Nelly.
This coming Fall quarter is my third year at Cal State East Bay. My major is Health Science with an option in Nursing or Pre-Clinical. My transition into college was very exciting for me. I lived on campus my freshman year and it was very new and exhilarating being on my own. The "IT" factor as to why I chose Cal State East Bay was that it was the Bay Area, close to my sister in Berkeley, and not too far from home. My favorite quote at the moment is one I heard my friend say at her graduation. "With every minor setback, there is a major comeback." It is just a little something I think about every now and then when it comes to school or family or the future. On my iPod, the most played song is "Tattooed Heart" by Arianna Grande. It puts me in a good mood!
I am a Junior majoring in Sociology because I really like meeting new people and listening to others to help them any way I can. My transition to college was initially very hard because I was the first person from my family to go to college. I eventually became independent and learned how to take on more responsibilities and rely on myself and just take action when it's time to get things done. I chose to attend Cal State East Bay because of its diversity. All the different types of people that you get to meet and interact with is great. My favorite quote is, "Don’t think about making life better for other people who don't deserve you, rather, focus on making your life the best, for yourself and those who love you." The song that is the most played in my iPod would be "State of Grace" by Taylor Swift.
I am currently a freshmen majoring in Biological Sciences with an option in Physiology; both fields of study are offered in the College of Science. With this major I am hoping to one day become a trauma surgeon. My transition into college was a bit difficult because I am from southern California: I had to adjust to a completely new environment, and I missed my family a lot. The reasons I chose to attend Cal State East Bay are because the university has the major I am interested in, some great programs and top notch professors, and the campus also has such beautiful and inspiring scenery. My favorite quote is “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that takes our breath away.” The most played song on my iPod is “Soldier” by Gavin DeGraw.
I am a sophomore here at Cal State East Bay, and I love being a Tour Guide here. My major is Business, and the College of Business and Economics is very popular as well as one of the best around. I like the idea of maybe one day owning my own business. The transition into college for me was relatively easy because I do not live that far from home, so whenever I want to go back home I can. Also the new friends I made allowed my transition to college be much smoother. I chose to attend Cal State East Bay because I received more financial aid from here and the school was close to home. One of my favorite quotes would be "It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light," by Aristotle. The most played song in my iPod would be "Loose it" by Atreyu.
East Bay has been very good to me during the three years that I have been here. My major is Sociology because I wish to gain a perspective on how the social world functions. I'm from Portland, Oregon so my transition into college was coming from out of state. The biggest difference between my hometown and the Bay Area would have to be the surroundings. Portland is such a small town and living there my whole life, I had already seen and done everything it had to offer. The Bay Area offers much more to explore with cities such as San Francisco, San Jose, and Oakland -- there is always something new to do. The west coast was the home to Tupac Shakur and he is responsible for my favorite quote, "For every dark night, there’s a brighter day." Maroon 5- "She Will Be Loved"- is the most played song on my iTunes.
