MFT Internship


The MFT internship program aims to provide training, supervision, and professional development for post –Master’s Registered MFT interns. The position primarily focuses on providing clinical and outreach services to registered CSUEB students.

Professional Activities

Individual, couples, and group therapy, crisis assessment and intervention, outreach programs, and consultation

Position Information

  • The position starts mid-September.
  • The training will include individual and group supervision as well as seminars and other forms of professional development.
  • 2 days a week. Counselor interns work either Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday. All staff work on Thursday. Position is nine months, September to June.
  • Pay is for all hours worked, including supervision.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A currently registration (with number) as an MFT/ASW intern in State of California, or will be registered by beginning of September.
  • Master’s Degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology
  • Strong clinical skills
  • Brief therapy experience (or strong desire to learn brief therapy)
  • Couples and/or group therapy experience (or strong desire to do couples/group therapy)
  • Crisis intervention experience
  • Outreach and consultation experience (or strong desire to do outreach/consultation)
  • Strong demonstrated interest in diversity
  • Team mentality
  • A passion for helping students to create healthy, vibrant lives

California State University, East Bay Description

Cal State East Bay has a total enrollment of 13,455 students, who can take courses at three campuses in the San Francisco Bay Area (Hayward, Concord, and Oakland). The student population consists of 37% Asian/Pacific Islander American, 32% Caucasian, 14% African American/Black, 13% Latino/a, 1% American Indian, and 4% other ethnic/racial backgrounds. Additionally, about 9% are international students. Cal State East Bay is largely a commuter institution with about 10% of students living in on-campus residence halls at the Hayward campus. The student population is diverse in other ways – many students are non-traditional age, and most students work in addition to attending classes. The campus operates on a year-round quarter system.
