WASC News

WASC Accreditation Visit October 16-19, 2007. A peer review team representing the Western Association of Schools and Colleges will visit CSU East Bay as part of the 10 year re-accreditation of the University in October.

This visit is a follow up to the Educational Effectiveness Report that was submitted to WASC in July 2007. WASC is the regional accrediting body for universities in California, Hawaii, and the Pacific. The purpose of this visit is to examine in greater detail the issues raised in the Educational Effectiveness Report and to make a recommendation to the WASC Commission on the ability of the university to meet the accreditation standards as specified in the WASC Handbook of Accreditation. These standards focus on student learning and educational effectiveness.

The visit will take place over four days, October 16, 17, 18, and 19. A visit schedule listing the activities and events will be available in early September.

Peer Review Team. The peer review team consists of Mary Kay Tetreault (Chair), Professor of Education and Women’s Studies, Portland State University; Beverlee Anderson (Assistant Chair), Director MBA Program and Graduate Programs, CSU San Marcos; Lisa Beardsley, Associate Director, General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists; Peter J. Gray, Director of Academic Assessment, U.S. Naval Academy; Kathi A. Ketcheson, Director, Institutional Research and Planning, Portland State University; Xavier Romano, Vice President for Student Development and Dean of Students, Knox College; and Jerome Walker, Associate Provost, University of Southern California.

Educational Effectiveness Report Submitted. The CSUEB~WASC Educational Effectiveness Report was submitted to WASC by the due date of July 25, 2007. It describes the results and dialogues from five research studies that focused on the Five-Year Program Review process, the General Education Program, Multiculturalism, Advising and Retention and Campus Climate. The report concludes with details about the implementation of CSUEB’s strategic planning process, and the seven mandates that are designed to carry out CSUEB’s mission and define CSUEB’s identity and future initiatives and educational goals. A variety of campus constituencies reviewed drafts of this report.
