Services provided by OFD/FaCET
These are just some of the services OFD/FaCET provides to the CSU East Bay faculty community.
Dossier & Portfolio Preparation
We offer workshops that provide overviews of dossier preparation for faculty who are submitting materials for retention, tenure, and promotion and for lecturers applying for range elevation. We also arrange informal hands-on dossier preparation sessions and individual consultations.
Faculty may drop-in to LI 2800 to write or grade. There are desk top computers, laptops, and printers available for your use. Groups of faculty that wish to gather in LI 2800, please make a reservation with Kyna Taylor (510-885-4722) to secure your space.
Formative Teaching Evaluations
The Office of Faculty Development offers a voluntary classroom observation process that stresses formative evaluation and involves your students. The procedure is confidential between the instructor and the Faculty Development observer, and thus the evidence collected belongs to the instructor. This is in contrast to a summative peer evaluation geared specifically to the RTP process. To discuss this process further and arrange for a consultation and observation, contact the Director of Faculty Development, Jessica Weiss.
The OFD/FaCET offers individual, confidential consultation about classroom teaching, sabbatical applications, the retention, tenure, and promotion process, range elevation for lecturers, and post-tenure review. Consultation is also available on revising syllabi, developing particular teaching strategies or assignments, discussing questions concerning student outcomes assessment, teaching and learning styles, and use of classroom technologies. Faculty also may request a confidential class observation. See Formative Teaching Evaluations.
Faculty are invited to contact OFD/FACET Director Jessica Weiss to request an individual consultation. Consultations are available for issues such as:
- Dossier Preparation
- Classroom Issues
- Research Planning
- Writing Coaching
This is not an inclusive list. Please contact the Director with any questions you may have.
OFD/FaCET sponsors orientations for new tenure-track faculty and lecturers. These sessions introduce participants to each other and to campus resources. Our goals are to help faculty establish a professional network on campus, to support acclimation to campus life as teacher-scholars and members of the community, and to encourage ongoing participation in faculty development programming.
For Fall 2014, New Faculty Orientation will be held September 17th, 2014 in the Biella Room. New Faculty are also invited to attend Back to the Bay.
Stipends & Awards for Teaching
The OFD/FaCET provides information about and distribution of Requests For Proposals (RFPs) when special opportunities for stipends for travel or other funding for projects related to teaching and learning are available.
The OFD/FaCET can help organize writing circles for groups of faculty who wish to meet regularly to support and advise one another on their professional writing projects.
