Welcome to Fall 2023

First-year freshmen starting in Fall 2022 will receive free required course materials (textbooks, access codes, etc.) from the Pioneer Bookstore for the Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 semesters. No signup is required, eligible students are automatically enrolled.  Details on how to obtain your required books and other course materials will be sent to students’ Horizon email accounts. . Here are some key dates to keep in mind for Fall 2022 semester:

  • Required textbooks and course materials will become available beginning Wednesday, August 3, 2022. 
  • Books for classes you drop must be returned to the Pioneer Bookstore by Friday, September 16, 2022.
  • Deadline for Fall semester rental returns/convert to purchase: December 13, 2022.

Frequently asked questions- How the program works

Do not place any orders for your required textbooks; starting in Fall 2022 the Pioneer Bookstore will prepare your order automatically. Please note that if you drop or add courses, your book order will be updated accordingly and instructions will be sent to your Horizon email address.

  • Digital Books - Digital required books will be provided via Brytewave. You will receive an email notification once they are available.
  • Physical Books -  Physical books will be available for pick-up beginning August 3, 2022. You will receive an email notification once they are ready for pick-up.

Required books will be provided free of charge, however you are responsible for returning the materials for courses you have dropped. If you have a physical book for a course you have dropped, you must return the book within two weeks, or by September 16, 2022, to avoid non-return fees. Physical books can either be returned to the bookstore in person, or shipped back to the bookstore at the address below. Digital books will be automatically revoked within 48 hours of dropping the class.

All physical book rentals from Fall 2022 semester must be returned to the Pioneer Bookstore by Monday, December 12, 2022. This rental due date will also be stated on the receipt that comes with your physical textbook(s).

If you would like to review and purchase these recommended materials, please visit https://csuebshop.com. Scroll down and select "Fall Semester 2022" from the dropdown menu in the "Get Your Textbooks" section. You will then be prompted to enter your courses. Once your courses have been entered, click the "Find Materials" button and a list of required and recommended materials will appear on screen.

As a reminder do not purchase any required materials as they will be provided free of charge.

For Fall2022, physical books will be available for pick up or shipped to your requested address beginning August 3, 2022.

To pick up your books, please visit the Pioneer Bookstore on the Hayward Campus, during Store Hours. Please wait until you’ve received your “ready for pickup" email before coming to pick up your materials. When picking up your books, you will need to provide a photo ID (preferably BayCard).

Please note: For the safety of our campus community, visitors are required to wear face coverings and maintain social distancing of at least six feet while on campus.

Digital books will be provided via Brytewave. You will receive an email from "BryteWave" to your Horizon email account once your digital books become available. If this is your first time using Brytewave, log in using the link provided in your order confirmation email.

If you are a returning user or if you are unable to locate the order confirmation email in your Horizon account, go to https://brytewave.redshelf.com and log in using your Horizon email account and your password. If you do not know your password, select "Forgot Password" and enter your Horizon email address. Directions for resetting your account will be sent to that email address.

Yes, the Pioneer Bookstore will provide the required textbooks for classes you add until the drop/add deadline.

The Pioneer Bookstore will automatically create a new order as you add classes. If a digital book is available for the class, you should receive it within 48 hours of adding the course. If physical books are used for the class, your order will be processed within 48 hours or as soon as the book becomes available.

If you have a physical book for a course you drop, you must return the book within two weeks, or by September 16, 2022, to avoid non-return fees. The books can either be brought back to the bookstore in person or shipped back to the bookstore at the address below. If you drop a class with a digital book, access to the book will be revoked within 48 hours.

The rental textbooks you received for the Fall 2022 semester must be returned to the Pioneer Bookstore no later than Monday, December 12, 2022.

In addition, you are responsible for any physical books you've received for a course you drop. Materials for a course you have dropped must be returned within two weeks, or by September 16, 2022, to avoid non-return charges. Please note that books that are not returned may result in a charge on your student financial account.

Rented textbooks can be returned to the bookstore in person OR shipped back to the bookstore at the address below. Hours and contact information for the bookstore can be found here.

When returning rented textbooks by mail, be sure to address all packages to “Pioneer Bookstore” and include your name and contact information inside the package.

The All Access program does not include course supplies such as art materials or lab equipment. If an item is not available from the bookstore, such as specialized third-party software or video simulations, contact your professor for help.

Students have the option to convert their rental textbook to a purchase, in store or online, through Monday, December 12, 2022. Please contact the Pioneer Bookstore for additional Assistance.

The value of the books and course materials will be posted on your financial aid award package.
