What Respondus LockDown Browser Does

LockDown Browser is a proctory solution to prevent cheating during online exams. LockDown Browser is a custom Internet browser that "locks down" the testing environment, preventing students from accessing other browser windows. For more information, visit the Respondus website.

How Instructors Use This

  • Prevents cheating during online exams, students are unable to copy, print, or access online calculators.
  • Prevents access to other applications including messaging, screen-sharing, virtual machines, and network monitoring applications.
  • Respondus LockDown Browser now integrates seamlessly with Zoom in Blackboard Classic and Ultra!

What Blackboard Rubrics Does

  • Create Rubrics for assessing and grading student work.
  • Associate Rubrics with gradable content items, such as assignments, discussion boards, blogs, and more!

What SafeAssign Does

Blackboard SafeAssign is an effective plagiarism deterrent with simple assignment integration. SafeAssign compares submitted assignments against a set of academic papers to identify areas of overlap between resubmitted assignments and existing works. How Instructors Use This

  • Institutional document archives: Contains all papers submitted to SafeAssign by users in their respective institutions.
  • Global Reference Database: Contains over 15 million papers volunteered by students.
  • ProQuest Journal Database: More than 3,000 publication titles, 4.5 million documents, and over 200 topical categories.
  • Internet: SafeAssign searches across the broader Internet for matching text using an internal search service.

What Turnitin Does

With Turnitin you can provide standardized or customized written comments, voice comments, check originality, highlight, and use rubrics you create. Peer Mark feature allows students review each other's work and provide constructive feedback for active learning. Students can use Turnitin on their computer or IPad. What Ally Does

Blackboard Ally is a tool that focuses on making digital course content more accessible for all learners. Ally provides information on a document accessibility report and tips on how to make the content more accessible. Ally provides multiple accessible versions for content in your course, such as audio files, translation language packs, MP3 file, and much more! Create accessible documents with Google Suite's Grackle Docs guided remediation tool. You don’t have to be an accessibility expert to use this tool. Create an Accessible Alt-Image Tag Library and create Accessible PDFs with ease. It is as easy as 1-2-3! Click - Open a Google Doc and run the Grackle Docs add-on. Review - Grackle Docs shows you what is’t accessible in organized groups.   • Learn about accessibility standards as documents evolve. 
  • Create Accessible Alt-Image Tag Library - Add descriptive text to an image, Grackle stores it. If the image is used again, Grackle automatically adds it. 
  • Create Accessible PDFs with Ease - Create accessible PDF for Section 508 compliance. Need to share with other Doc users? One click and Accessibility goes with it.

EASY: Order your textbooks by the deadline. Submit materials to the Bookstore by the posted deadline.
EASY: Use clean, simple design with clear contrast when creating materials. Avoid watermarks and extra graphics and decorations.
EASY: Use styles with Word and templates with PowerPoint.
EASY: Look for electronic versions of book chapters and papers instead of scanning them.
NOT HARD: Use detailed alt-text for pictures and graphics. If you put in a non-decorative picture or graphic, right click on the picture, hit “format,” and then go to “alt text.” Type a detailed description of the image into the alt-text box. A screen reader will be able to read the description.
HARDER: Scan PDFs with OCR scanners, then use Adobe Acrobat to check the reading order.
HARDER: Provide transcripts for all audio.

In the Classic or Original Course View, you can easily navigate, provide content, edit items, and change options that affect how users interact with the interface. Classic course views appear seamlessly in the course list.

How Instructors Use This

  • Course menu: Users' access point for all course content.
  • Control Panel: The area after the course menu is your access point for course management functions, such as course style, course tools, and users. Students don't see the Control Panel.
  • Student preview: You can review course content and validate course behaviors from a student's perspective. You're logged in with a student account—the preview user account—and enrolled in the current course.

Blackboard Mobile™ solution gives you access to all aspects of the educational experience on mobile devices. Giving you the power to engage learners on their terms and devices, offering instant access to the information they need, and encouraging the interaction they crave. What Blackboard Collaborate Does

Blackboard Collaborate is a simple, and convenient web conference tool. Blackboard Collaborate is integrated inside each course at Cal State East Bay, so there is no need to create and share meeting links. It is a great learning tool that promotes collaborative learning and support engagement. What Zoom Does

Zoom is a web conferencing software that is available to all students, faculty and staff at Cal State East Bay. Zoom is an easy to use, reliable video conferencing solution that is integrated inside of each Blackboard course. Zoom allows you to share your screen, record meetings and even annotate screens such as website's. It is great for scheduling office hours with students or meetings with up to 500 participants. What NetTutor Does

NetTutor is a web-based online tutoring service in which the students choose either synchronous or asynchronous sessions with Highly-Qualified Tutors who hold a bachelor’s degree, and many hold graduate degrees in their field of expertise. Students receive live tutoring on-demand, question drop-off, and writing feedback options. NetTutor also complies with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and Section 508 and is FERPA-compliant.   • Customized Tutoring allows each institution to customize every aspect of the service their students.
