The Liberal Studies Program at CSU East Bay aims to provide students with a solid liberal arts education, one that allows for both breadth of knowledge integrating arts, humanities, social science, and science disciplines regarding some major global issues, and specialization on an academic discipline or subject area.
The Liberal Studies Major provides students with a solid knowledge base and communication and analytical skills appropriate to many careers and occupations. The Teacher Preparation Option (including the BPEP program) provides excellent preparation for K-6 teaching. The Liberal Arts Option provides well-rounded preparation for graduate work and law school, and for employment in business, non-profit, and government organizations.
The Liberal Studies Programs, in collaboration with CSUEB's Department of Teacher Education, offers the BPEP (Bachelors Plus Early Pathway) Program, a fast-track program that integrates a two-year B.A. program and a one-year Multiple Subject Teaching Credential Program into a two-year blended program, for 30 selected students each year, who aspire to complete both the Liberal Studies B.A. and the Teaching Credential Program at the same time at an accelerated rate.
Liberal Studies works closely with PACE (Program for Accelerated College Education) in offering the Liberal Studies major (Liberal Arts Option) for working adults with classes in evenings, weekends, or on-line.
