The Admissions Process

To apply to the MBA with Concentrations, students need to take the following steps:

Apply On-Line

Students need to complete and file an on-line application through Cal State Apply. Students should include their personal statement within the application, and we ask students to include the reasons they are looking to pursue an MBA and their reason for selecting Cal State East Bay. Be sure to pay your application fee to avoid delay.

Take the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT)

Students may be required to take the GMAT. Sign up for the GMAT test. Please submit the scores electronically to the university by selecting it during the exam, or sending it at a later date. Our GMAT code is TCV-K9-41.

GRE score is also accepted.

Candidates with 5 or more years meaningful work experience may be considered for GMAT waiver. (Meaningful work experience typically requires a Bachelors degree). Suitability for the program for those seeking a GMAT waiver will be determined by an interview.

Résumés and letters of recommendation are not required as part of the initial application process.


Admissions Requirements

The M.B.A. is open to students who hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. Each applicant is evaluated on the basis of

  • past academic performance as reflected in undergraduate grade point average and subsequent coursework; and
  • results of the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) in verbal, quantitative, and the "Index Score" that involves the total GMAT score, Index Score = (Upper Division GPA x 200) + Total GMAT]. Admission to the program is selective.
  • GRE score, if provided, is accepted in place of GMAT. GMAT may be waived for applicants with five years or more work experience. Applicants' eligibility for a GMAT waiver is discussed during their personal interview, in which their professional achievements and academic background are addressed.

International Students

For admission to California State University, East Bay as an international student, you are required to meet the following conditions:

1. Meet the above admission requirements

2. Demonstrate proof of English proficiency in one of the following ways:

  • An official transcript showing graduation with a bachelor's degree from a U.S. college or university, or an international college or university where English is the principal language of instruction, or an official letter from the college or university certifying that English was the language of instruction.
  • A TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 550 (213 computer-based or 80 Internet-based; 92 for MS Economics) or above.
  • An overall test score from IELTS (International English Language Testing System) exam of 6.5 or above for graduate students. A score of 7 or above is required for international students seeking a Masters of Science degree in Economics.
