Associate professor of Kinesiology ZáNean McClain was recently named  the California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (CAHPERD) 2021 Honor Award recipient.

"Dr. McClain is a worthy winner,” said Paul Carpenter, chair of the Department of Kinesiology. “The award is for individuals who are dedicated to serving the profession and advancing health, physical education, recreation or dance (in McClain’s case — physical education). Dr. McClain truly exemplifies the spirit of devoted service through her work coordinating the single subject waiver program in physical education, her leadership of the regional Bay Area Physical Education-Health Project, and her service on numerous university committees and partnerships with local schools."

McClain’s work focuses on teacher effectiveness, enjoyment in school physical education, adapted physical activity or motor difficulties and physical activity promotion for all populations.

“The spirit of devoted service to my profession is ingrained in me, and it really does feel good to be recognized at this level for what I already love to do,” said McClain, who has been teaching physical education courses at Cal State East Bay since 2008.
