How do I apply?

To apply for the MSA program, students should apply through Cal State Apply and send official transcripts and scores as appropriate to the MSA Program Office (see Admissions).

What is the cost of tuition for the MSA program?

MSA program course is $555 per unit. The tuition for the entire program is $24,975 excluding foundation courses.

Is financial aid available?

Yes, you can apply for financial aid from CSUEB.

Will the tuition for the program change while I am in it?

No. The program tuition is set at the beginning of the program and will stay the same for the entire program.

Tuition fees for subsequent cohorts are subject to change.

Does the MSA degree come with any option?

No.

Can I obtain credit for courses taken in other programs or at other schools?

For lower division foundation courses ACCT2251 and ACCT2253, we accept credits from a four year university or a community college.

For upper division foundation courses ACCT3170 and ACCT3220, we only accept credits from an AACSB accredited Business School at a four year university.

For MSA program courses, we do not accept any credits. This is a cohort-based program and students must take all courses to fulfill the required 45 units.

My undergraduate degree is not in Accounting, can I enroll in the program?

Yes. We accept students with an undergraduate degree not in accounting. If you have not completed the four foundation courses, you have to complete the foundation courses you need during the Summer Quarter before the start of the MSA program in the Fall Quarter.

My undergraduate degree is not in Business, can I enroll in the program?

Yes. We accept students with an undergraduate degree not in accounting or business. If you have not completed the four foundation courses, you have to complete the foundation courses you need during the Summer Quarter before the start of the MSA program in the Fall Quarter.

Can I work full time while enrolled in this program?

Yes, MSA courses meet on Friday evenings and Saturdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Foundation courses will be held on Monday and Wednesday evening from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm and Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

However, MSA program is a very rigorous and demanding program. Students must be able to spend sufficient time to study for the program.

What are the admission requirements?

Undergraduate degree, GMAT (or GRE), and personal interview required. TOEFL for international students.  

I have not taken the GMAT yet, can I enroll in the class now and take the GMAT later?

No. You should take the GMAT first before you apply to the MSA program. Find a test center close to you here.

When does the program start?

MSA program starts in Fall Quarter each year. If foundation courses are needed, students need to enroll in the Summer Quarter.

When will I graduate if I complete all the graduation requirements?

At the end of the Summer Quarter in September of the following year.

When is the application deadline?

  • 1st round of application deadline: January 31, 2016
  • 2nd round of application deadline if spaces are available: March 31, 2016
  • 3rd round of application deadline is only for students who have completed the foundation courses and if spaces are available: May 31, 2016

What is the course schedule?

Three MSA program courses are offered each quarter. One course is held on Friday evening from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm. Two courses are held on Saturday from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm.

Foundation courses will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm and Saturday from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm.

Is the cost of books included?

No.

Are there any classes offered online?

No.

How many school terms are there and how long is each school term?

CSUEB is on a quarter system. There are four quarters each year, and each quarter is 11 weeks long. It will take four quarters to complete the MSA program.

If I have to miss some classes for one quarter, what will happen?

You can take the missed courses with another cohort during the following year when the same course is offered. You will complete your degree one year later.

Where are classes held?

All classes are held at the CSUEB Hayward Hills Campus. 

What types of jobs are available for MSA graduates?

The MSA program will provide graduates opportunities to pursue a wide range of professional accounting careers in public accounting firms, corporations, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations.
