Our East Bay community is defined by those who live, work and learn within it. We are a community that welcomes and includes all. We aspire to become a community where we all feel as if we belong; meaning, your authentic self is welcomed and valued. We reject any rhetoric that seeks to divide who we are as a community. We have defined East Bay through our mission: Cal State East Bay welcomes and supports a diverse student body with academically rich, culturally relevant learning experiences which prepare students to apply their education to meaningful lifework, and to be socially responsible contributors to society. Through its educational programs and activities, the university strives to meet the educational needs and to contribute to the vitality of the East Bay, the state, the nation, and global communities.
To the members of our Asian American and Pacific Islander communities you are not alone, you are valued, and appreciated as part of us and we stand in solidarity with you. Social Justice demands equity, and liberatory practices and we will continue to strive our best to be an institution that engages in socially-just actions and behaviors.
We are in a moment; a moment that we have no precedence for, it is creating feelings of helplessness, frustration and overwhelm for many of us. What we can control is how we show up together, as a community. We can be here for each other, it may look different from our traditional “normal” but we do have the privilege of being able to support each other virtually. The Office of Diversity (this includes the Diversity Inclusion Student Center), beginning next week, will begin hosting many different virtual hangout, dialogue and community-care spaces. Please be on the lookout for our announcements. In the meantime if you have suggestions of other ways we can virtually support please feel free to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In Appreciation and Solidarity,
University Diversity Officer
