Resident Assistant and Theme Community Assistant Selection Process

Student Housing and Residence Life is excited to announce that we are currently in the process of hiring Resident Assistants(RA) and Theme Community Assistants(TCA) for the 2019-2020 academic year. We encourage those that are interested to review the RA/TCA selection information included below. Step by Step Guide for Applying to Be a Resident Assistant/Theme Community Assistant

Step 1:

Read through the Terms and Conditions of each position to ensure the following:

  • You fully understand the requirements and expectations of the position
  • You meet the minimum qualifications to be considered
  • You are available for all required staff meetings and training

Step 2:

Attend an information session and attend a resume building workshop. These are not required in order to apply but they are highly encouraged. These sessions will help to ensure you are the best set-up for success in the interview process.

 *Please note the second workshop is a general resume building workshop sponsored by Area 1 and not specific to the RA/TCA position

Livestream 1: Wednesday, October 31, 2018 @ noon

Step 3:

Complete an online application by Wednesday, November 28, 2018. Please note that there is a separate application for the Resident Assistant and Theme Community Assistant Positions. Both applications include a resume and two short essay questions that will be reviewed as part of the pre-screening process. The application links for both positions will go live on November 2, 2018 at noon.

Step 4:

Applications will be pre-screened. This includes completing a GPA and conduct check as well as a review of the application essays.

Step 5:

After pre-screening, all candidates who are advanced in the process will be asked to sign-up for an interview. Interviews consist of a 30-minute individual interview and a group interview process.

Individual interviews will take place on Saturday, January 26, 2019 and group interviews will take place on Sunday, January 27, 2019. We recommend holding time in your calendar for both of these dates in order to participate in the interview process should your application be advanced.

Step 6:

In order for us to make an offer, all candidates being considered for a position must complete and clear a livescan. You will be emailed details regarding how to complete the livescan as well as a date by which it needs to be completed should you be advanced to this step. Please note you will not be charged to complete this livescan. If contacted to complete a livescan it is important that you do so by the requested date or you could be removed from the pool of candidates being advanced in the process.

Step 7:

Those who are offered a position should expect to receive an offer letter via email on March 1, 2019. You cannot be officially hired until you have accepted the position. The deadline to accept will be included in your offer letter so please ensure you are checking your horizon email.

Step 8:

Those that accept their offer will need to complete a hiring packet. Details regarding pick-up and completion of this packet will be emailed to you once you have accepted the position.

Step 9:

All new Resident Assistants and Theme Community Assistants are required to complete a series of Student Leadership Workshops in the Spring semester. If you do not successfully complete all 4 days of these workshops it may result in your offer being rescinded. If you have a pre-existing conflict with any of these dates please reach out to the designated contact person who will be provided to you at the time of offer.

All Resident Assistants and Theme Community Assistants should also plan to attend a mandatory staff meeting on Friday, April 5, 2019 from 3:00-5:00pm.
