University to honor 234 top scholars at May 15 convocation

The top 234 students in the 2010 graduating class will receive their Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude and Cum Laude medallions at the University Honors Convocation at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 15 in the area of the peristyle in front of the Music Building, Hayward campus.

In addition, the 10 seniors who are in the University Honors Program will be recognized, and Mike Abary, Business Administration '88, who is senior vice president of Sony's Networked Technology & Services Division, will be the guest speaker. In July 2006, he was recognized in Dealerscope magazine's "Top 40 Under 40" executives in consumer electronics, and was the first-ever Marketing recipient for Sony Electronics' prestigious Samurai Award of excellence in 2007.

"Inaugural Fanfare," written by Robert Litton '00, MA '02, will open and close the program, and music major Sabrina Vasquez will sing the National Anthem.

Honorees and their guests are invited to stay for a reception immediately following in the Theatre Grove. 

Summa cum laude recipients have an overall university grade point average between 3.90-4.00; magna cum laude recipients have between 3.80-3.89; and cum laude recipients have between 3.60-3.79 during their college careers.
