Grant Bergland, MA English ‘10, has won the Columbia University Provost Fund fellowship to their Master of Fine Arts, Fiction Program. The award amounts to $80,000 over two years.

Bergland, of Walnut Creek, will begin his studies in September.

Always an avid reader, Bergland credits English Professor Steve Gutierrez with inspiring his interest in writing and for helping facilitate the fellowship.

The graduate holds a BA in English from Arizona State University, and has  been published in a number of magazines, including this year's issue of CSUEB's literary magazine, “Occam’s Razor."

He can hardly wait to get his feet on the campus and get working.
