Bijan Gillani, internationally known e-learning expert, received his doctorate from the University of Southern California in Curriculum and Technology. Currently he is a professor of Educational Technology in the California State University, East Bay.
Dr. Gillani was awarded the prestigious Professor of the Year for the California State University. Professor Gillani is the Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Educational Technology Leadership and teaches courses in Learning Theories and the Design of E-learning Environments, Instructional Content Development, Educational Interface Design, and ColdFusion for Educators. He has been the key player to establish three graduate programs: Educational Technology Leadership, Multimedia, and Online Teaching and Learning for the California State University, East Bay. He was also the Director of two grants for integration of technology into curriculum and was the key player in two highly successful grants at the California State University; East Bay called ProjectDream and ProjectTeach.
For the last fifteen years Dr. Gillani has been a highly sought after speaker for e-learning conferences, both nationally and internationally. In addition to being a consultant for private agencies and educational institutions, he has been a keynote speaker and presenter at conferences on the integration of multimedia in education and e-learning. He has worked very closely with NASA Ames to design and develop an educational Web site (e.g. Astro-Venture). Most recently, he was identified as the Co-Investigator with NASA to prepare a proposal for “The NASA American Student Moon Orbiter”. Currently he is the principle investigator of the partnership between the California State University, East Bay and Kenya Utalii College.
Most recently, he was keynote speaker at the Back to the Bay conference for CSU East Bay in 2008. He has also presented at IBM Interface Design Conferences at the IBM Research Centers in New York and San Jose (1999-2003) and has been keynote speaker in ITiRA Conferences at Central Queensland University, Australia (1999-2003), The Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California Conference (2004-2005), California Science Teacher Association (2006), University of Johannesburg (2007), and others. He is also invited to be the keynote speaker at a conference in Malta in Feb. 2009. He is a prolific author in the field of learning sciences and technology. His recent selected publications include one book (Learning Theories and the Design of E-Learning Environments) and close to twenty chapters in books and refereed journals.
