Athletes from all 15 of Cal State East Bay’s teams have been named to the 2017-18 Fall Quarter Athletic Director’s Honor Roll demonstrating the Pioneers can excel on and off the field.

The 90 student-athletes were recognized for having at least a 3.5 GPA during the most recent academic quarter and this fall’s total is the highest yet. Of the 90 athletes honored, 17 earned 4.0 GPAs and many were students recognized in previous quarters.

Athletic Director Jason Carmichael said the department challenges its athletes to have at least a 3.0 collective GPA and to have had all of the teams meet this goal was "a tremendous accomplishment.”

"I'm extremely proud of the dedication our student-athletes have shown in the classroom this past fall,” he said. “We created this Honor Roll to recognize the hard work that Cal State East Bay student-athletes put in to excel both athletically and academically, and they have continued to prove themselves more worthy of such recognition with each quarter."

According to the athletics department, the Pioneers swim team led the way with 11 honorees, followed by women’s soccer and baseball with 10 each. The volleyball, water polo and men’s cross country and track teams, each had nine honorees. Men’s soccer had seven followed by the women’s cross country and track teams with six and women’s basketball with five. Softball and men's golf each had four honorees, followed by men’s basketball and women’s golf with three each.
