  • Professor of Physics Derek Jackson Kimball was announced last month as a 2018 Fellow of the American Physical Society. He was also a recipient of the Fundamental Physics Innovation Awards, funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. Jackson Kimball will receive a Visitor Award to travel to Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel, to work with researchers on experimental investigations of exotic spin-dependent interactions related to dark matter.

  • Assistant Professor Ryan Smith and Associate Professor Erik Helgren recently published a paper in the American Journal of Physics outlining an upper-division undergraduate physics laboratory experiment that integrates the fabrication and characterization of a p-n junction in silicon.


  • Professor Levent Ertaul was recently awarded an “Outstanding Achievement Award for Research Contributions to the Field of Network Security” from the American Council of Science and Education. He was also featured in an interview on ABC-7 about the Facebook security breach.
