The spacious lawn between the science buildings and the Valley Business and Technology building will be renamed the Fremont Green in a dedication ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 10 a.m.

The Fremont Green acknowledges locally-owned Fremont Bank’s longtime partnership with Cal State East Bay. Gifts have supported the Hayward Promise Neighborhoods and the Education Summit, a free annual event that helps middle and high school students prepare for college through a resource fair and workshops.

“One of the hallmarks of this university is the collaboration we have with our community partners,” said President Leroy M. Morishita. “Fremont Bank has invested in Cal State East Bay through gifts to programs that facilitate regional students’ pathways to college. Their commitment to our students continues to help them be successful beyond graduation, with internships for students and career opportunities for our graduates.”

Livermore-based Fremont Bank was founded in 1964, and its executive vice president, Howard Hyman, is a 1979 graduate with degrees in business and psychology. The 20-branch bank employs nearly 200 Cal State East Bay graduates.

“Our credo has always been that healthy communities build healthy businesses,” said Hyman. “Many bank staff, including senior executives, have benefitted from their quality education received at the university. The bank is proud to hire students and graduates from all demographic backgrounds and hopes they find long satisfying careers, as many have already.”
