Cal State East Bay will virtually host Yosimar Reyes, a nationally-acclaimed poet and speaker on Thursday, April 30, in celebration of LGBTQ+ pride month.

Reyes was born in Guerrero, Mexico and raised in Eastside San Jose. His work explores themes of migration and sexuality. His collection of poetry entitled “For Colored Boys Who Speak Softly” was self-published in 2009 following a collaboration with American-Mexican Guitarist Carlos Santana.

Reyes' accolades include being named by “The Advocate” magazine as one of “13 LGBT Latinos Changing the World” and by Ramezcla media company as one of “10 Up and Coming Latinx Poets You Need to Know.” He is also a Lambda Literary Fellow and the recipient of the Undocupoets Fellowship.

A graduate of San Francisco State University, Reyes regularly tours and presents at university campuses throughout the United State and is currently working on his one-man show entitled “Prieto.”

At the Thursday event hosted by Cal State East Bay, Reyes will lead a community discussion around the theme “Allied in Action, United in Justice.” The event will be hosted on Zoom at 12:15 p.m. and can be accessed using the link: bit.ly/pride-cml
